Read With You
Book reviews · dark, disturbing & unforgettable

Some books don’t end when you finish them.

Read With You is my shelf of honest reviews — gothic family tragedies, extreme horror and quiet psychological novels, read closely and judged without softening the verdict.

The one I’ll never forget
“Hands down the most disturbing book I’ve ever read.”

The Girl Next Door (1989), Jack Ketchum. I read it in 2024, and I don’t think I’ve been the same since. For the first time in hundreds of books, I wished the ending would turn out okay.

Honest verdicts

If I loved it, I say so. If it felt flat, forced or repetitive, I say that too — and if I couldn’t finish it, I tell you where I stopped.

Characters first

I read characters logically. Who built them, what they believe, and whether the book earns the feelings it asks me for.

Warnings up front

Many of these books are brutal. Content warnings sit at the top of every review that needs one, before anything else.

Every review, uncut.
